Hey guys! Today I want to share another travel post with you about my trip to Cuba in March. After I provided a little Havana guide in this article, I want to continue with a hotel review today. As I told you before we travelled a lot and visited many places. Therefore we also chose a lot of different types of accomodations during our trip. After we spent a few days in a simple, local hotel when we arrived in Havana, we stayed in a many private houses – so called casa particulares. We really enjoyed the latter to meet locals. However, you might – sometimes more sometimes less – forgo a certain degree of comfort. Hence, we were super excited to spend one of our last nights of our trip in the beautiful Gran Hotel Manzana! The Kempinski Hotel in the centre of the city was opened last year and is said to be the first 5-star hotel of international standard. We had an amazing time and today I want to share some impressions of our stay with you…

Location and Terrace

The hotel is situated in the heart of La Habana Vieja – Havana’s old town. The Parque Central is right next door and the hotel offers phenomenal views over the city, enjoyable either from the rooms or – even better – from the spacious rooftop terrace. The latter is definitely the Manzana Kempinski’s greatest highlight: Here you can have a drink in the infinity pool and spot the city’s main attractions, from the iconic capitol to Havana’s famous boardwalk right next to the sea, el Malécon. Non-hotel guests are welcome at the rooftop bar (which opens during the day but is even more stunning at night) and are allowed to use the pool area against a cover fee, which is a great way to escape the hectic city life for a day or two.

Inneneinrichtung

Interior

Our room was just as you would expect it from a 5-star hotel: clean, big an luxurious – as was the rest of the hotel. The view of our room was amazing: you could see the Capitolio laying in bed, which was by the way super comfortable and just right after three weeks of traveling. My highlight however was the batroom-area. You could see the tv from the bathtub and therefore watching a movie while taking a bath. Of course that is not a must-have but definitely a nice-to-have. The design was elegant, modern and with a lot of pinks which perfectly matched one of my outfits I planned. The hotel also has a mall and spa which we did not see as we had not that much time. Also (good) WIFI is available everywhere in the hotel which is not that „normal“ in Cuba.

Essen

Food

As the Cuban cusine is not that varied we were really excited for the breakfast in the hotel. The most of the time during our trip our breakfast was kind of uniform and consisted of white bread with ham, scrambled egg and fruits. I know that this does not sound so bad. However, eating that everyday you get a bit bored. At the hotel a wide range of different kinds of bread, cheese and other goods were provided. The fruit selection was huge and I loved to have some granola. Furthermore they served super delicious Eggs Benedict on smoked ham – so yummy!

We also had dinner at the hotel restaurant which is located at the beautiful terrace. Again we were happy about the diverse selection of dishes. We went for seafood  which is really delicious and fresh in Cuba. The lobster was amazing and again we really enjoyed the view and atmosphere of that terrace.

I hope you liked my impressions of the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay and I can definitely recommend a night in this beautiful hotel. Especially at night time the atmosphere on the rooftop was just magical…
